The hype around “Grow It Yourself” comes at no surprise in times of recession. While organic food is perceived as an expensive option to maintain a healthy life – growing your own vegetable garden seems as an attractive solution. Community gardens provides a brilliant solution to health and social needs of those living in big cities. Members of a community garden share the responsibility of the management and maintenance of the garden. According to the National Community Garden Association - in the United States and Canada, there are about 20,000 community gardens- typically on city-owned land rented to residents (up from 6,020 in 1996).
