Trends from Japan: The Wearable Forest
by: Taly Weiss January 2, 2009![]()
Feel like getting back in touch with nature? No problem. We’ve got your fashion, eco and tech combo right here. The Wearable Forest, designed by Ryoko Ueoka, Hiroki Kobayashi and Michitaka Hirose from the University of Tokyo, is “a dress that interacts bio-acoustically with a remote forest”. Not surprising that fashion once again comes together with the eco-world. This embeddable technology shows us how fashion can help our interactions with nature: “The Wearable Forest dress visualizes the received sounds via embedded LED lights drawing different light patterns onto the dress. Embedded speakers give an additional audible dimension to the Wearable Forrest dress.” I would say the future of textiles goes hand in hand with technology, giving designers the ability to re-invent fashion and its infinite options.
