Wear your family or facebook friends around your neck

The ‘Family tree jewelry’ by designer Sarah Van Gameren, actually started with her need to put together all the names of her family and ancestors. She started off by stitching all of their names into a hankerchief and then moved on to the necklace. The design for the collier was inspired by the ‘name jewelry’ young girls tend to wear (also, coincidentally, like the one Carrie Bradshaw always wears). The piece of jewelry contains the names of all of the young lady’s family members, and to quote the designer ” From her ancestors on her breast to her close family embracing her neck. She wears the collier like a genetic palette.”
Now imagine, if that piece of jewelry was taken to the ‘virtual family’ level, say, a necklace containing the names of your closest facebook friends? I wouldn’t be surprised if soon the designer will be receiving requests to create customized facebook-friends colliers. I can only hope…
